We are very sure that you have already seen the meme “That’s how mafia works” back in 2019 from a Pewdiepie video. If not, then you must have passed by an odd video game ad on YouTube or Facebook about some Level 1 thug turning into a Level 30 apprentice just by handing over a bag of jewels after ditching his girlfriend to please the mafia boss. Yep, that’s from a game called Mafia City. If you have no idea what Mafia City is, allow us to elaborate on that. After all, not a lot of people even know what the game is supposed to be until we at Games.lol played it first hand and want to share it to you.

Misleading Ads Yet Fun Gameplay
Oddly enough, while the ads are not what they seem, that’s exactly what the developers had in mind. Thanks to their bizarre commercials, people get intrigued by the game and eventually dive into it. Mafia City successfully turned odd ads into powerful tools to get more players in. And, in March 2019, it hit a peak of 10 million active players in just a month. Sure, it kind of died down these days but there is no denying that the developers were very clever about it.
It also comes in its gameplay. While people thought it would be a sort of crime simulator free-roaming game like Gangstar: Las Vegas, it is a real-time strategy game that is similar to Empire War Z and DomiNations.
As such, people still accepted Mafia City for what it is thanks to its gameplay.
Surprisingly Rewarding
While it is a real-time strategy game, it is somehow more forgiving than other free to play RTS titles. Mostly because the game handsomely rewards its players – paying or not – with goodies to improve their base and finish objectives faster.
The countdown timer to finish a building is comparatively shorter than other games too – assuming that the developers wanted to make a less impatient game since people easily get fed up with long loading times. Hence, many players stuck with Mafia City – even if the ads were wrong.
Fun Raids
The heart and soul of Mafia City come in its raid matches. It is… oddly satisfying, to say the least. Thanks to its simplistic gameplay with some crucial elements that you need to take note of, PvP raids often end up tense and explosive. It is a very overlooked part of the game which non-players do not even realize. Some would argue that raids in Mafia City are much better than in Clash of Clans.
Just don’t forget to enlist yourself in a guild to grab more bonuses and allies in the long term.
